2022

Summary

The project was a chance to interact with a new culture, discover a new side of architecture and collaborate in research to tackle the global issue of increased concrete use in construction.

We aim to raise awareness and create conceptual foundations to counter the excessive use of concrete as a building material in The Gambia. Through in-depth research based on the current problems encountered in the production of concrete blocks in The Gambia and on the most common waste materials, we have created a guide informed by alternative materials and how to value waste.

We co-created with seven students at the GTTI, who actively participated in, and sculpted the outcomes of the project.

Through a final guide and the previous interactive sessions we had with the GTTI students, we hope to have sparked a desire to address the issues of concrete in construction, and re-imagine the future of construction materials in The Gambia.
